2. Memory Management

Memory Management

Modern operating systems, such as Windows 10, are equipped with Memory Management. The purpose of Memory Management is to provide functionality of the operating systems which manages primary memory between main memory and disk, while each process is kept track regardless of either it is allocated to a process or it is free. Doing so, reduces the number of reads and writes to the disk results in improved responsiveness from the operating system. Users notice faster animations and quick responses when launching apps.

Windows Memory Management process has a 32-bit /64-bit virtual address consisting in 4gigs or 8gig depending on the process. However, all threads of a process cannot access memory that belongs to another process which protects corruption. The implementation of these new technologies is mostly due to the hacker threat advanced knowledge of the location key system, and partly due to the use of memory allocation efficiency on a needed basis. There can be many processes, RAM is a limited resource whereas virtual memory is unlimited. When the memory exceeds the RAM, the operating system moves to virtual address space to the computer’s hard disk this frees space for other uses.

The Windows systems page files can be configured in system properties or (Pagefile.sys files) in root of a partition. There can be one such file in each disk partition. The size of the page file depends on the amount installed RAM and on Virtual Memory an architectural limit can be applied to Windows include: 2GB of shard virtual address space(kernel), 2GB of private virtual address per process (user mode), early Windows systems before 2003 have 666MB of system PTE storage, 470 MB of paged pool storage, and 256 MB of no paged pool storage. Monitoring system performance can be found in the Performance Monitor accessed through the administrative tools.
